III Officers (the rate they were drawing at date of transfer) while the Bank will pay to the Government the equivalent of half of the salary of each. These 2 officers are to be commended for the public spirit they have shewn in accepting these arrangements. Kr. E. W. Hamilton is in the same circumstances and it is inexplicable to me that Messrs. Butterfield and Swire have not followed Mr. Stabb's example in availing themselves of a substitute who is without doubt

superior in intellect and education to the majority of the

men on their Staff,

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient,

humble servant,

+

Governor,&c..

P.S.

I understand that Messrs. Butterfield and Swire have, since the date of the appeal, made arrangements to secure the part time services of Mr. Falconer, partner in

a firm of shipbrokers, who formerly occupied the position of shipping clerk with them for 10 years.
